The show gets one thing exactly right: the end of the world is not chaos. It becomes infrastructure.

The vaults are infrastructure. The factions are infrastructure. The rules, the hierarchies, the rations — all of it is someone's system, persisting past the conditions that created it. What Fallout explores is not what gets rebuilt after collapse but what survives without anyone choosing to keep it. The systems that outlast their original purpose.

Lucy's journey works because she starts from the one place that maintained the illusion of normalcy and has to learn that the surface isn't the structure. The structure is what kept running underneath.

Most post-apocalyptic fiction treats collapse as an event. Fallout treats it as an adjustment. The world didn't end. It adapted. And kept billing.
